DETERMINE THE PLACE VALUE

51 736 = 50 000 + 1 000 + 700 + 30 + 6

            = 5 ten thousands + 1 thousand + 7 hundreds + 3 tens + 6 ones

Ten thousands	Thousands	Hundreds	Tens	Ones
5	1	7	3	6

The place value of 5 is ten thousands.

The place value of 1 is thousands.

The place value of 7 is hundreds.

The place value of 3 is tens.

The place value of 6 is ones.

YEAR 4/ Unit 1 WHOLE NUMBERS- name & write numbers

Let’s read numbers with the help of place value charts, starting with small numbers progressing to larger numbers.

e.g: 473, 8 310, 14 976, etc.

Ten thousands	Thousands	Hundreds	Tens	Ones
		4	7	3
	8	3	1	0
1	4	9	7	6

473 is read as four hundred and seventy-three.

8 310 is read as eight thousand three hundred and ten.

14 976 is read as fourteen thousand nine hundred and seventy-six.
